Wofford Heights, CA
Shorty after 12:00 pm the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a grass fire near Sierra Vista Dr. and Skyline Dr. in Wofford Heights. First Arriving crews encountered an approximately 1/2 acre grass fire with a slow rate of spread. Crews aggressively attacked the fire and requested KCFD Helicopter 408 to assist with water drops to stop the progression of the fire. Once crews were able to gain full containment of the fire, a total of 4 acres of grass had burned. Crews are remaining on scene for mop up.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a resident in the area performing defensible space around his home and was legally burning when winds picked up pushing the fire into some grass. KCFD would like to remind residents to be extra cautious when performing defensible space around their homes. As the whether begins to get warmer and humidities start to drop the potential for a catastrophic wildland fire increases.
