At approximately 10:25 pm tonight, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a house on fire in the 10000 block of McCormac Ave. First arriving crews encountered an approximately 1000 square foot single story single family home with smoke and flames visible and an exposure threatened just south of the house. A reinforced structure fire was started. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire keeping the fire contained to the main structure, while saving the exposures. An interior search was performed and confirmed that the home was vacant at the time of the fire. The fire was controlled in approximately 20 minutes. Crews remained on scene to mop up, check for extension and investigate the cause. Loss as a result of the fire was estimated to be approximately $50,000 with approximately $100,000 saved. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
