At approximately 5:59 a.m. the Kern County and Bakersfield Fire Departments received a call for a structure with smoke showing in the 700 block of South Williams Street. Crews arrived on scene to an abandoned 2 story apartment complex with heavy smoke and fire showing from one of the apartments on the second floor. Due to the size of the fire, a second alarm was called. Fire crews deployed hose lines and conducted a primary and secondary search of the building.  Receiving an all clear on the search Kern County and Bakersfield fire crews aggressively attacked the fire and were able to keep it contained to the second floor. The building is abandoned and has no power. Cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
