Shortly after 6:00 a.m. this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received multiple reports of a restaurant on fire in the 900 block of 7th Street.  A reinforced structure response was initiated.  First arriving crews encountered an approximately 1000 square foot business with smoke and flames visible. Crews made an aggressive attack on the fire keeping the fire contained to the business of origin, while saving adjoining businesses. An interior search was performed and confirmed that the building was empty at the time of the fire. The fire was controlled in approximately 20 minutes. Crews remained on scene to mop up, check for extension and investigate the cause. Loss as a result of the fire was estimated to be approximately $150,000 with approximately $250,000 saved.
