Oildale, CA

Shortly after 4:00 PM Saturday, the Kern County Fire Department received a report of a residential fire in the 500 block of Woodrow Avenue. Kern County Fire Crews arrived on scene to find an abandoned building fully involved with multiple exposures being threatened. Kern County Fire immediately requested for a third alarm response. Fire crews aggressively attacked the fire with multiple hose lines and was able to protect the exposures on the east and west side of the structures. Utility Company was requested due to power lines down. Fire crews flagged the danger area and continued with the attack of the fire. The fire was contained in approximately 40 minutes and crews will remain on scene for an hour for mop up.  

Fire is under investigation. 

Additional Information:  The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to install, maintain and check their smoke detectors monthly.  Change its battery twice a year, whenever we change our clocks to and from Daylight Saving Time.  Smoke detectors save lives.
