Just after 9:00 PM this evening, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for an apartment fire in the 21200 block of Madre Street. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a 1200 square foot apartment unit that was fifty percent involved in flames. Eight additional apartment units were threatened (3 vacant, 5 occupied). Crews worked quickly to evacuate the threatened apartments. Firefighters made an interior search and fire attack while others protected the exposures. No injuries were reported and the fire was controlled in approximately 25 minutes with no damage to the other apartments. The apartment where the fire originated was vacant and the cause appears suspicious. Anyone with information regarding this fire is encouraged to call Fire Investigators at 1-877-FIRE-TIP.
