Bakersfield, CA

Shorty after 1:30 pm on Friday, the Kern County Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire in the area of 13000 Round Mountain Road. Due to the remote location of that area, access was an issue and a full Wildland response was started. The U. S. Bureau of Land Management as well as air tankers from California South Operations were dispatched.

First arriving crews encountered a fire in light flashy fuels.  In all, 70 firefighters from Kern County and assisting agencies aggressively attacked the flames and stopped the fire's progression at 3 acres. Five patrols and two type 3 engines, one helicopter, 2 hand crews, 2 battalion Chiefs, and 1 water tender supported the operations.  The fire is presently 100% contained. Crews are remaining on scene for approximately 2 more hours for mop up.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Evacuations: None - No immediate threat to homes
