Kern County Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire with a trapped victim in the 400 block of Monroe Street. A reinforced structure response was started by dispatchers. First arriving crews encountered a 900 square foot single-story home with heavy smoke and flames showing to the rear of the house. Firefighters pulled hose lines to the rear of the house where they encountered a motorhome that was fully involved. Crews knocked down the flames in eleven minutes, while protecting the adjacent home and looking for victims. No victims were found at the residence, however an adult male burn victim was reported to be at the corner of Harrison Street and Elm Street, several blocks away. Value loss to the motorhome is estimated at
$20,000. The adjacent home suffered only minor heat damage. The burn victim was taken to San Joaquin Community Hospital in a Hall Ground Ambulance. An additional adult male was displaced by the fire and he is receiving temporary assistance from the Red Cross. KCFD Fire Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.

Additional Information: Firefighters could not locate a smoke alarm within the residence. The Kern County Fire Department urges residents to have a working smoke alarm and to practice home evacuation drills with your family. Firefighters do not know why the burn patient left the scene.

Assisting Agencies: Taft PD, KCSO, Hall Ambulance, PG&E, KC Building Dept.
