Bakersfield, CA

Shortly before noon, Sunday morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a report of a home in the 9300 block of Eastwind Circle, on fire and threatening adjacent structures. Due to the high summer temperature and the potentially exposed houses, a reinforced structure response was initiated. First arriving crews encountered a single family mobile home approximately fifty-percent involved with smoke and flames visible. Neighbors and family on scene confirmed that the single female resident was out of town. An aggressive attack was made to extinguish fire and to protect exposures and the flames were controlled in approximately twenty minutes. Crews remained on scene to mop up, check for extension and investigate the cause. Family and friends of the occupant are intending to provide her shelter when she returns home. Loss to the residence and contents was estimated to be approximately $120,000
with approximately $60,000-worth saved. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Additional Information: The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to clear debris from around their homes and fences. Trim bushes and trees to maintain a defensible space around your house should a fire threaten your property.
