Shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, the Kern County Fire Department received a report of a structure fire in the 400 block of Sycamore Drive, with smoke and flames observed.  A reinforced structure response was initiated.  First arriving crews encountered a recreational vehicle, fully involved, near to and threatening two structures.  Fire personnel made an aggressive attack to extinguish the flames and to protect exposures.  Electrical wires had fallen onto a fence at the front of the property and posed additional hazards to emergency responders.  The fire was brought under control in approximately twenty minutes and one adjacent building suffered minor damage.  Crews remained on scene for another few hours to mop up and check for fire extension. The recreational vehicle was determined a total loss.  Two adult residents had escaped the blaze and were treated on the scene for minor injuries and elected to seek private medical attention and transport by personal vehicle.

Additional Information:  The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to install, maintain, and test smoke detectors in their homes.  Early smoke detection is a major factor in saving lives from house fires.  In many cases, seconds count when occupants must get out of a burning home. Smoke detectors save lives.
