Tehachapi, CA

Shortly before 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, the Kern County Fire Department was notified of a possible fire burning in the area of Tehachapi Willow Springs Road and Backus Road approximately 3 miles south of the Tehachapi area.   Due to the remote location of that area, access was an issue and a full Wildland response was started. The U. S. Bureau of Land Management as well as air tankers from California South Operations were dispatched.

First Arriving crews encountered a fire in light flashy fuels.  In all, 70 firefighters from Kern County and assisting agencies aggressively attacked the flames and stopped the fire's progression at 2 acres in a little over two and a half hours.  Nine Type 3 and Type 6 engines, two Air Tankers, two Helicopters, 1 Bulldozer, 1 Hand Crews, 2 Battalion Chiefs, Air Attack, a Safety Officer and 2 Water Tenders supported the operations.  The fire is presently 100% contained. Crews are remaining on scene for approximately 2 more hours for mop up.  The cause of the fire is under investigation
