Just before 11:30 PM this evening, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for several modular home and office buildings on fire in the 1800 block of Harvell Place. All units were reported to be unoccupied. The first arriving crew encountered four fully involved units with an additional five units that were immediately threatened due to strong winds and heavy embers. Fire crews initiated a defensive fire attack and shuttled water to the scene in order to extinguish the fire. It took firefighters 90 minutes to extinguish the flames. In all, firefighters were able to limit the fire to six of the modular buildings. An additional 30 buildings were saved. A KCFD Dozer was utilized to overhaul the fire.
