Grapevine, CA

At 1:49 PM, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a vehicle fire on SB Interstate-5 . When units arrived on scene, they found the engine compartment of a pick-up truck on fire. A grass fire was also burning up the hillside on the west side of I-5. Crews attacked the vehicle fire and were able to protect the enclosed trailer that the pick-up was towing. Simultaneously, firefighters worked to control the perimeter of the grass fire with hand tools and extended a 400-foot progressive hose-lay up the steep hillside. They were able to quickly establish a containment line around the fire and incoming resources were cancelled. The fire was contained in 40 minutes and held to 1 acre.
