Bear Valley Springs, CA

At 4:30 this afternoon, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a lost adult male in Sycamore Canyon. KCSO Search and Rescue was notified and KCFD Helicopter 408 was placed on standby. Firefighters from the Bear Valley Station joined a Bear Valley PD Officer and started their search at the trail-head to Sycamore Canyon. They located the patient after hiking approximately 1.25 miles westward along the trail. The patient was heavily intoxicated and expressed his intent to hurt himself. He had minor abrasions from rolling down the hillside. Search and Rescue was cancelled and Helicopter 408 was launched to evacuate the patient. Crews had to restrain the patient, as he posed a threat to himself and others. He was placed on a backboard and secured in a stokes basket. He was hoisted by the helicopter crew and transferred to a waiting Hall Ambulance at KCFD Fire Station 16 in Bear Valley. He was taken to Tehachapi Valley Hospital for evaluation.
