Structure Fire - Bodifsh

Fire crews were dispatched to a single wide mobile home fire. On arrival, firefighters were faced with the structure approximately 25% involved with fire. The heat and flames started several small spot fire which were beginning to spread into the grass and vegetation around the property. Rio Bravo Crew 7, our local Interagency Hotshot Crew arrived on scene and set to work extinguishing the vegetation fire. Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the structure fire and protected an adjacent home. Firefighting efforts were made more dangerous when live electrical wires broke and lay on the ground; additionally, a propane take was venting gas due to the heat of the fire.
The homeowner was not at home at the time of the fire and declined Red Cross assistance. 4 dogs were able to get to safety from the fire; however, a cat was found deceased.

Due to the swift actions of the first arriving crews, this fire was prevented from become a fast moving wild fire through Bodfish.

Additional Information - With the current hot and dry conditions, residents are reminded to maintain their properties and reduce hazardous vegetation around home. The last date for hazard reduction is June 15th and any work should be completed before 10 am to reduce the possibility of any sparks starting a fire.
