BAKERSFIELD, CA

Bakersfield, CA: KCFD dispatchers received numerous calls for a home that was struck by lightning, starting a fire on the roof. Firefighters arrived on scene of an approximately 3500 sq. ft. single family residence, in the Rio Bravo area of Bakersfield. Bakersfield City Fire Department was committed to a fire a few miles away making it necessary for KCFD crews to make the initial fire attack. Bakersfield City equipment did respond upon completion of the initial fire, which was a palm tree struck by lightning. Firefighters initiated a reinforced fire alarm and then quickly made an aggressive attack on the fire. Additional arriving firefighters performed a search on the home and determined no one was home, while the crew of KCFD Truck 41 started accessing the roof of the structure to attack the fire and remove burning debris, all while heavy lighting was in the area. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire preventing further spread throughout the structure. No one was home at the time of the fire. The family will be staying with relatives for the evening.
