GLENVILLE, CA

At 11:37 a.m., the Kern County Fire Department received a report of a grass fire along Granite Road, between Bakersfield and Glennville. As crews approached the scene, they encountered four separate vegetation fires on the east side of Granite Road near Stockton Drive. Witnesses advised that a vehicle pulling a trailer with a missing tire had ignited the brush along the roadway. The call was upgraded to a second alarm wildland response and five air tankers were ordered. The retardant drops by the air tankers and water drops by two helicopters including KCFD Helicopter 407 helped to contain the largest of the fires to 191 acres. A total of 215 acres was burned. Crews will be on scene through the evening and tomorrow mopping up hot spots. The trailer that caused the sparks was found abandoned. KCFD Fire Investigators have taken possession of the trailer and are investigating.

Evacuations: None

Road Closures: Granite Road was closed as firefighters worked through the afternoon. Use caution if driving through the area and choose an alternate route if possible.

Assisting Agencies: BLM, Cal Fire, KCSO

Additional Information: One home was in the immediate path of fast moving flames. Fortunately, the home owner maintained excellent clearance around his home and no damage was sustained to the home.
