Just before 10:15 PM this evening, the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for a couch on fire in the 10500 block of Santa Ana Street. Callers reported a juvenile male walking away from the fire towards a nearby market. Kern County Sheriff Officers were able to detain a suspect at that location that matched the description of witnesses. Meanwhile, when fire crews arrived on scene of the couch fire, they found that it had spread into an adjacent 4-plex housing unit. The fire had burned up the wall and entered the attic of the structure. Crews worked to extinguish the fire and had it controlled in approximately 20 minutes. The fire caused smoke and water damage to two of the four units. The other two units sustained smoke damage only. Ten adults and four children have been displaced by the fire. The Red Cross was requested to assist the families with temporary accommodations.

Assisting Agencies: KCSO, Red Cross, PG&E (electric), SoCalGas (gas)
