Bakersfield, CA

Just before 3:15 this afternoon, the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for a grass fire on the Panorama Bluffs, 1/4 mile east of Manor Street. Incoming crews deployed a hose line along the east flank of the fire to stop the lateral progression of the flames. The fire ran uphill, burning two acres of dry vegetation, but was held at the top by crews. There was concern that with prevailing winds, homes south of Panorama Drive with shake roofs might be threatened by flying embers. As a precaution, extra fire engines were responded to be on standby in the area. Crews have contained the fire and will be clearing the scene shortly. No homes were damaged. The fire is under investigation by KCFD Fire Investigators.
