7000 Block of Azalea Avenue, Bakersfield, CA

Just before 5:45 PM, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a garage fire in the 7000 block of Azalea Ave. Responding units from Station 42 (Niles and Fairfax) reported a column of light smoke as they were enroute to the incident. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fire within an attached garage of a 1,000 square foot single story residence. Crews deployed hose lines and used a rotary saw to cut open the garage door. The fire did extend into the home causing moderate damage to a bedroom. The fire was controlled in approximately 20 minutes. The displaced family is being assisted with temporary accommodations by family that live nearby.
