McFarland, CA

Just before 4:00 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call from a passer-by on South Bound 99 reporting a visible structure fire east of Highway 99. The first arriving crew from McFarland encountered a double-wide mobile home that was one hundred percent involved in fire in the 15000 block of Zachary Ave.  A family of five had exited the structure prior to firefighter arrival. All were suffering from smoke inhalation, and two Hall Ambulances were dispatched to the scene. The patients were transported to San Joaquin Community Hospital. Firefighting efforts were hampered by live electrical wires down. PG&E was responded to secure the utilities. Firefighters were able to save one vehicle, however one vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical. The residents advised that they had recently been having electrical problems.

Additional Information: It is unknown if this home had a working smoke alarm. The residents did not specify what awoke them.

Assisting Agencies: Hall Ambulance, PG&E
