Approximately 11:00am this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received multiple calls for a grass fire in the river bottom just South of Golden State Hwy Bridge and West of the River. First arriving crews were faced with approximately 2 acres of grass, brush and trees on fire which prompted the incident commander to request additional resources. Firefighters swept through the path of the fire to assure there was no one in danger. Fire crews were able to contain the fire and will remain on scene mopping up hot spots.

The fire was started by the burning of trash. Kern County Arson Unit was able to apprehend the suspect and issue him a court citation.

Heavy smoke will continue to be visible.
