Structure Fire - 600 Block of Wilson Avenue, Oildale

Just after 12 noon, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a structure fire in the 600 block of Wilson Ave. Crews encountered a room and contents fire to the rear of the home. They were able to quickly control the fire and contain it to the room of origin, however the home suffered smoke damage throughout. The fire was controlled in approximately 10 minutes. KCFD Fire Investigators have determined that the fire was started by two juvenile boys, ages 12 and 13. The juveniles started multiple areas of the house on fire and extinguished them before allowing a fire to get out of control. Investigators have spoken to the families of these juveniles. The families will be responsible for the damages and the juveniles will be enrolled in the KCFD Juvenile Fire Setter Program. This program aims to teach juveniles about the dangers of fires and to prevent future loss and tragedy from fire. This case has also been submitted to the Juvenile Justice Center for review and possible further action.

Additional Information:  This fire occurred in a vacant home that was not secured. PG&E was responded to shut down the gas and electric service to this home. KCFD encourages property owners to board up and secure vacant properties.
