Structure Fire - 1600 Block of Olive Drive, Bakersfield

Just before 8:45 AM this morning, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a double-wide mobile home on fire in the 5800 block of Sunset Ave. A reinforced structure response was started by dispatchers. One adult female evacuated an adjacent travel trailer prior to firefighter arrival. No other persons were home at the time. The first arriving crew from the Inyokern Fire Station encountered a double wide mobile home with 25% flame involvement and a travel trailer with 50% involvement. Fire crews deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire and utilized a KCFD 1,500 gallon capacity Water Tender as a water supply, as there are no fire hydrants in that area. Crews from Ridgecrest and Randsburg arrived to help salvage items from the structure and overhaul the fire. The fire was controlled in approximately 30 minutes. One adult female was displaced by the fire, but she advised that she has family in the area to take her in. The fire originated in the area of the breaker box where multiple extension cords were plugged in. According to the NFPA, wire or cable insulation is what ignited first in 32% of electrical distribution or lighting equipment home structure fires from 2007-2011.

Additional Information: Liberty Ambulance crew evaluated the adult female for possible smoke inhalation. She declined treatment and transport.

Assisting Agencies: Southern California Edison, Liberty Ambulance Company
