Structure Fire - 2100 Block of Kentucky Street, Bakersfield

At 3:49 AM, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a structure fire in the 2100 block of Kentucky Street. Residents had been awoken by working smoke detectors. When the first crew arrived, occupants had evacuated the smoke filled house. A reinforced alarm was started, however first alarm resources were able to handle and the extra resources were cancelled.

Crews were able to contain the fire within 9 minutes of arrival and save approximately $75,000 to the structure. There was approximately $25,000 in damage after extinguishment. The cause of the fire was food left on the stove. Two adults and one child were displaced by the fire, and the Red Cross was responded to assist the family with temporary lodging.

Additional Information: Prior to the arrival of fire crews, one of the occupants re-entered the smoke filled house to gather personal belongings. The Kern County Fire Department would like to remind residents to never reenter a burning structure once all residents have exited and been accounted for.
