Natural Gas Leak- 8400 Rosedale Hwy , Bakersfield

Current Situation:  On Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at 10:07 AM, the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a smell of natural gas inside the Walmart on Rosedale Hwy. KCFD dispatch began receiving multiple calls for the smell and contacted the store to initiate an evacuation.

First arriving crews assisted with the evacuation and proceeded to locate the origin of the leak.  The leak was found in the attic space. Crews controlled the leak with the assistance of The Gas Company. The system will be tested and monitored for leaks before employees and customers are allowed to reenter the store.  The cause of the leak was determined to be the result of HVAC system testing by contractors.

Evacuations: Approximately 150 people were evacuated from the store, including employees and customers.
