Cause:  

 

Structure Fire - 40th Street 'Q' Fire, Bakersfield

 

Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with heavy smoke and flames coming from a second story apartment. Crews advanced upstairs and to make sure that everyone had made it out of the apartments. After an aggressive attack, the fire was held in check to the original apartment and the apartment next door. The bottom two apartments only received minor damage. Nine total people were displaced however denied assistance from the Red Cross.

Of the four apartments in the unit, three were evacuated and the fourth was vacant. The adjoining unit was also evacuated for a brief time, however received no damage.

Additional Information: The Kern County Fire Department wishes to remind its citizens to working smoke detectors in their homes, and to change the batteries at least every six months.
