Oildale – Just before 10:45 p.m. on June 6, 2012 the Kern County Fire Department received a call for a structure fire in the 700 block of Wilson Avenue. About eighteen firefighters responded to the incident. Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a nine hundred square foot two story house that was fully involved with fire. The fire had spread to a fence and was threatening a neighboring home. Firefighters took immediate action, preventing the fire from spreading further and saved $60,000 worth of property. The blaze was controlled in approximately sixteen minutes. The house was vacant and no one was inside when the fire began but was being occupied illegally by four squatters. Damages are estimated at $40,000.00 and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is suspicious in nature and is under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the fire or who has any information regarding this incident is asked to call 1-877-FIRE-TIP (347-3847). Information may be submitted anonymously.
