LAMONT, CA – Monday, March 1st, 2010 at 12:35 A.M., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a structure fire in the 7000 block of Kearney Ave. in Lamont. Approximately 13 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident.
Upon arrival, crews were faced with a single family residence partially involved with smoke and fire. The first crews on scene initiated an aggressive attack of the fire, knocking it down within minutes. The firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room of origin, preventing further damage to the residence.
Property saved is estimated at $50,000. Damage to the residence is estimated at $30,000. No injuries were reported on this fire. The family of the residence was awakened by a smoke detector and was able to exit the home safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Kern County Fire Dept would like to remind the public of the importance of having a working smoke detector in their home.
