EAST BAKERSFIELD, CA - On Wednesday January 26th 2010 at approximately 11:57 A.M., a call was received by the Kern County Fire Department for a structure fire in the 2900 block of Monterey Street in East Bakersfield.  Approximately 20 Kern County Firefighters responded to the incident with assistance from Bakersfield City Fire Department.

Upon arrival, fire crews were faced with a developing fire in an 800 sq ft structure to the rear of the main house.  Fire crews made entry to the property and commenced an aggressive attack on the structure involved. Crews did a great job in protecting the adjacent house, which suffered only minor damage. Fire crews were at risk during operations due to live power lines that were damaged and arcing. Other fire crews established a water supply and protected adjacent properties.

Fire crews were able to save approximately $200,000.00 in value to the main structure. However, the fire destroyed an estimated $100,000.00 to the adjacent structure. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries and the home was vacant at the time of the fire.
